Marvel Rivals mid-season patch 4.5 – Phoenix nerfed, Venom buffed, Psylocke rising. The mid-season patch for Marvel Rivals Season 4.5 just dropped, and the shakeups are significant. The meta has been stale for a while now, with Phoenix, Ultron, and Jeff dominating most high-rank matches. But now, with a big list of buffs, nerfs, and team-up changes, that might finally shift. Some of the updates are promising, while others feel more like experiments. Let’s go through the most impactful changes in this 20251010 update.

Phoenix finally nerfed

Phoenix has been one of the most oppressive duelists in the game, especially thanks to her ability to animation cancel and burst targets down using Dark Ascent. That is now being addressed:

  • Melee attacks no longer stack Sparks
  • Ammo no longer replenishes during Dark Ascent
  • Dark Ascent now has a 1-second cooldown

These changes remove her ability to chain massive damage in short bursts. She can no longer spam her flying ability to reload and shoot instantly. This should significantly reduce her ability to delete supports and tanks. With Phoenix out of the spotlight, expect more Hela and Psylocke in your matches.

Psylocke buffed and ready

Psylocke has been strong in coordinated play, but now she is getting buffed to the point where she might be meta again in all ranks. Her Dance of the Butterfly ultimate now slows her less, going from a 30 percent self-slow to just 15 percent. Each strike now does 170 damage instead of 150.

This allows her to close the gap faster and get out more safely if needed. The damage buff helps her deal with stacked healing comps more effectively. This is a big win for Psylocke mains, and you will probably see her picked more often now that Phoenix is weaker.

Venom is now an anti-heal tank

Venom’s Feast of the Abyss ultimate now applies a 30 percent healing reduction to enemies hit for 4 seconds. This gives him a new layer of utility. Even if he does not one-shot a target with his ult, he now makes healing that much harder for the enemy team.

Given that triple support comps are still very common in ranked, this change makes Venom a strong pick. Combined with Rocket Raccoon’s new 40 percent damage boost on his ultimate, Venom can combo kill squishy targets much more reliably.

Mr. Fantastic gets some control

Mr. Fantastic now immobilizes a target for 1 second after successfully landing Distended Grip. This gives him more crowd control and could help in certain matchups. However, he still suffers from weak damage and poor survivability. He remains one of the least picked duelists in high-rank games.

Jeff the Land Shark nerfed but still strong

Jeff’s Oblivious Cuteness passive now reduces crit damage by 50 percent instead of 70 percent. This makes him easier to punish, but it does not solve his real strength. His consistent healing, area pressure, and synergy with triple support comps make him too strong. Unless more drastic changes happen, expect Jeff to remain a top-tier strategist.

Ultron healing cut down

Ultron’s healing from Imperative: Patch is reduced from 35 to 30, and the bonus healing to an ally is reduced from 10 to 5. His ultimate now costs 3700 energy, up from 3400. These changes reduce his ability to get ult faster than others and stall fights. He is still viable, but he is no longer the clear best support in every comp.

Human Torch nerfed hard

His projectile damage was lowered from 5.5 to 5, and ammo now has a 0.5 second delay before replenishing. Plasma Body movement speed also dropped from 900 to 850. Torch is no longer the dominant duelist he was, and might finally fall out of perma-ban territory.

Meta outlook

This patch is clearly trying to push back against the triple support and Phoenix-heavy meta. Venom, Psylocke, and Blade are all positioned to benefit. Jeff and Ultron remain strong, but they are slightly easier to deal with. The addition of more anti-heal sources like Venom’s ult and Namor’s new team-up with Hela shows that the devs are serious about changing how support stacking works. We will see if it is enough.
