New heroes: Marvel Rivals Season 3 Phoenix arrives, Blade joins mid-season

Headlining is Marvel Rivals Season 3 Phoenix (Jean Grey), a ranged duelist with powerful area-of-effect and stack-based spark attacks. Phoenix’s arrival adds strategic depth with new spark-based damage mechanics that bring fresh energy to team fights and solo plays. Her animations and ultimate visuals have received massive praise from early players and content creators.

Blade is also joining the roster but will be introduced later in the season, around August 8 in the mid-season 3.5 patch. Blade brings a unique melee duelist playstyle with life steal abilities and spinning attacks. His enraged mode appears to amplify his damage while offering some survivability, making him a solid pick for close-range flanking strategies.

Symbiote madness: Klyntar map and skin themes

The new map, Klyntar: Celestial Husk, drops players into a symbiote-infested battlefield themed around the terrifying influence of Knull. This Domination-style map is already being praised for its dark visuals and dynamic verticality, encouraging creative positioning and coordinated team plays.

Weird and wild future heroes teased by devs

In an interview with VideoGamer, Marvel Rivals’ game director Chan confirmed that the devs are licensed to pull from the entire 85-year history of Marvel Comics. This means we could eventually see playable characters as quirky as Squirrel Girl or Jeff the Land Shark. The developers aim to surprise players with characters that aren’t just household names but hidden gems of the Marvel universe.

Unfortunately, the fan-favorite Carnage did not make it into this season despite fitting the current Klyntar theme perfectly. Many fans believe that Carnage should have replaced Blade as the main highlight. The concept art for Carnage suggests he would have been a hybrid dualist with incredible visual appeal, and his absence is felt deeply by the community.
